STRONG COMMUNICATION

In the classroom, it is essential to keep up a continuous flow of communication, while the students are focused on a written task, talk to them go around and check if they need assurance on the task, tell them they are doing well. Equally as essential is the communication with their parents, this can be very daunting not sharing the same first language. However, it is key to get a relationship with parents to share positive or negative aspects about their child’s developments.

THE CLASSROOM

The classroom is where it all begins! The first time in a new class can be dauting for some students, so try to make the room as visually aesthetic as you can; Stick colourful posters of English destinations, the alphabet, English words/phrases, nouns, verbs and adjectives around the room. Include games and activities in your class, this is a great way to work out the preferred learning techniques of your students.

POSITIVE FEEDBACK

Students positively thrive on confirmation of a good job! This in turn brings out a passion in students to achieve more, the encouragement from their teacher motivates a positive learning atmosphere and a sense of fulfilment for all the students.

COMMITMENT

Commitment towards students’ development is key. Creating a shared interest with your students in their learning-goals creates a strong drive for success and to remain focussed within your students

CONSISTENCY IN TEACHING METHODS

This is the most important aspect of your teaching plan and probably the most challenging. It is vital to be organised, prepare all your lessons for the week, make sure you have a fun learning task for each start of the lesson. In time these learning games will become familiar to your students and you can begin to have lots of fun with these, this will also allow you to monitor your students’ progress by comparing from week to week. Ensuring your consistency in your teaching methods creates a stable learning environment and is the best way you can track each students progress, and of course, you will be well on the way to becoming one of their favourite teachers!
